Budget overhaul may happen to tackle economic woes, says minister – Bernama

The 2015 Budget may be restructured to address the weakening of the ringgit and falling oil prices, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said.He said Putrajaya carried out a review of the budget and the announcement would be made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Tuesday."Both of these factors have a positive impact rather than negative. Although we do not know what will happen to the world economy in future, we hope the uncertainty can be overcome," he said after the launch of the Sungai Rokam Arch and the handing over a hearse to the Sungai Rokam Mosque in Ipoh today.Najib on Tuesday said the 2015 Budget might be restructured because of several major developments such as falling oil prices and the recent floods, which was the worst in decades.Husni said the challenges should be seen in a positive light in the country’s quest to be a high-income economy by 2020."This is the crux of the matter for the government, the private sector, the public and NGOs (non-governmental organisations)," he said, adding that this called for a concerted effort from all parties and not only the government. – Bernama, January 17, 2015.
