The most impressive feature of the Jabra Extreme2 is the HD-quality wideband speaker that allows you to hear your caller clearly. HD-Voice is a feature shared among the bestBluetooth headsets, but the Extreme2 offers it at a much more affordable cost.
In addition to the HD-Voice, this headset comes loaded with all the necessary Bluetooth profiles: HFP (Hands-free Profile), A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Visual Remote Control Profile) and PBAP (Phone Book Access Profile). With these profiles, you can control functions like answering and making phone calls with your voice, streaming audio, playing and pausing audio or videos from the headset, and hearing your caller's name announced in the headset when you receive a call.
The most useful profile is the A2DP because it allows you to stream high-quality audio from your phone or other A2DP devices. Listening to music through a Bluetooth headset isn't ideal because you're listening to a mono channel. This doesn't mean you can't enjoy music when you're not on a phone call, leaving your opposite ear open to people who need to talk to you. In addition, you can also catch up on your reading by streaming audio books. A2DP is also useful for receiving directions from your phone's GPS.
The Jabra Extreme2 got its name from the extreme Noise Blackout dual-microphone noise cancellation system. This name comes from the idea that you can take this headset into the most extremely noisy environment and it will black out all the unnecessary noise so that your caller only hears you. In addition, the volume in your earpiece automatically increases or decreases to match the background noise.
For the most part, the Jabra Extreme2 lives up to its name. You can take this call into noisy environments and the dual-microphone system will eliminate most of the background frequencies so that only your voice reaches the caller. However, if the background noise increases suddenly, like if a large truck drives by while you're walking along a busy street, the Noise Blackout 3.0 will "black out" all the noise, including your voice. The result is a caller annoyed with broken and stuttering audio.
The Extreme2 comes with the Ultimate-Comfort Eargels – an earbud with an extended hook that molds to your ear for a secure fit. However, the hook doesn't so much mold to your ear as it creates tension by jamming against your concha – the hollow part of your outer ear leading into the ear canal. This extended hook allows you to wear the headset securely. However, the headset only includes two earbuds, small and large. If neither one fits, you have to buy different sizes separately. The Jabra Extreme2 also includes two over-ear hooks for added security.
A voice guidance system helps you with everything from pairing the device to your phone to placing calls, making this a very easy headset to use right out of the box. The Jabra Connect app helps with pairing your Bluetooth device and allows you to record audio notes and reminders. However, it doesn't yet include a text-to-speech or speech-to-text feature.
